     New Delhi, Dec 5 (PTI) Rahul Gandhi today targeted Prime
Minister Narendra Modi saying he believes only in "marketing"
and "symbolism" and concentrating all power in his hands in
the belief that he can run the country alone.
    Accusing the NDA government of treating democratic
processes as "useless", the Congress Vice President said
"Today (Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha) Mallikarjun Khargeji
was speaking but the microphone was switched off."
     "We never did this kind of thing. Their thinking is that
the democratic process is useless and not required. They
cannot say it outside but this is their thinking," Gandhi
said.
    Adressing an alumni meet of Youth Congress, Rahul charged
BJP does not believe in democracy and on the contrary when
there was UPA government at the Centre, leaders of opposition
parties always got a chance to speak in parliament.
    He also referred to the protest led by him in Parliament
over the controversial remarks of union minister Niranjan
Jyoti amid a stalemate between the government and the
opposition on the issue.
    He said while the programmes of UPA were eaimed at giving
power to the people at large, those of NDA government "snatch
power from people".
    "This is the difference. The Prime Minister feels that he
alone can run the country. He deeply believes in this. And
this can never work. Only people of this country will run
it...His thinking is of symbolism. Say anything, market it and
then start saying the next thing. People will react to it,"
Gandhi said as he also sought to pick holes in the Prime
Minister's Sansad Gram Yojana scheme. PTI AMR

Rape victim commits suicide

Burdwan (WB), Dec 1 (PTI) A 14-year-old girl student,
who was allegedly raped, committed suicide by hanging herself
in her house in West Bengal's Burdwan district.
    The girl was allegedly raped by a youth on September 30
last at Ahalidipur and committed suicide on Saturday. She left
a note stating that she and her family members were being
pressurised by the accused to withdraw the FIR which was
subsequently lodged.
    Police later recovered the body and sent it for
postmortem.
    Following the alleged rape which was committed at her
house when the other members were not present, the police
arrested the youth but he was subsequently released on bail.
    Since then the youth and his family members started
harassing the girl and pressurising her family members to
withdraw the FIR, police said.
    Burdwan District Superintendent of Police, S M H Mirza
said search operations have been launched to nab the culprits
responsible for the incident.
    Based on the note, the police arrested the mother of the
youth and three other family members. They were produced at
the court yesterday where the acting CJM Anusha Lama remanded
the mother and another family member to two days of police
custody while the two others were sent to judicial custody

அவனை கடத்திய மர்ம நபர், சிறுவனின் பெற்றோர் செல்போனை தொடர்பு கொண்டு, ’உங்கள் மகனை விடுவிக்க வேண்டும் என்றால், நீங்கள் ஒரு லட்சம் ரூபாயை உடனடியாக தர வேண்டும்’ என்று தொடர்ந்து மிரட்டி வந்தான்.

இது தொடர்பாக, சிறுவனின் பெற்றோர் அளித்த புகாரின் அடிப்படையில், அவர்களின் செல்போனுக்கு அழைப்பு வந்த மறுமுனையை கண்காணித்த போலீசார், நான்கே என்ற 18 வயது நபரை நேற்று கைது செய்தனர்.

சிறுவன் எங்கே? என்று அவனிடம் போலீசார் விசாரித்தபோது, அவனை பாலியல் பலாத்காரம் செய்து கொன்று விட்டதாக நான்கே தெரிவித்துள்ளான். இறந்த சிறுவனின் உடலை என்ன செய்தான்? என்பது தொடர்பாக அவனிடம் விசாரணை நடைபெற்று வருகின்றது.

கடந்த பாராளுமன்ற தேர்தலில் தோல்வியடைந்தது குறித்து விவாதிப்பதற்காக காங்கிரஸ் கட்சியின் நிர்வாக குழு கூட்டம் திருவனந்தபுரத்தில் உள்ள கேரள காங்கிரஸ் தலைமையகமான இந்திர பவனில் கடந்த மே மாதம் நடைபெற்றது.

இந்த கூட்டத்தில் பங்கேற்ற காங்கிரஸ் உறுப்பினர்கள் சார்பில் பல்வேறு கருத்துகள் முன்வைக்கப்பட்டன. மத்திய அரசின் மக்கள் விரோத ஆட்சியும், ஊழல் பிரச்சினைகளும், விலைவாசி உயர்வும்தான் ஒட்டுமொத்த தோல்விக்கும் காரணம் என விவாதிக்கப்பட்டது.

இதற்கு சில தினங்களுக்கு முன்னதாக, கட்சியின் தோல்வி குறித்து கேரள மாநில காங்கிரசின் மூத்த தலைவர்கலில் ஒருவரான டி.எச்.முஸ்தபா பத்திரிக்கையாளர்களுக்கு அளித்த பேட்டியில், ராகுல்காந்தியை “கோமாளி” என்று குறிப்பிட்டிருந்தார்.

முஸ்தபாவின் இந்தப் பேச்சு குறித்தும் இந்த நிர்வாக குழு கூட்டத்தில் விவாதிக்கப்பட்டது. இதனையடுத்து, கட்சியின் கட்டுப்பாட்டை மீறி ராகுல் காந்தியை அவதூறாக பேசிய முஸ்தபாவை தற்காலிக நீக்கம் செய்ய அந்த கூட்டத்தில் தீர்மானிக்கப்பட்டது. கட்சியில் இருந்து அவர் சஸ்பெண்ட் செய்யப்பட்டார்.

ராமநாதபுரத்தில் உள்ள கீழக்கரை நகரசபை பெண் தலைவரான ரட்டியா துல் கத்தாரியா என்பவருக்கு இன்று காலை ஒரு மர்மக் கடிதம் வந்தது.

அவரது கணவர் அதை பிரித்து, படித்துப் பார்த்தபோது, கீழக்கரை பகுதிக்குட்பட்ட 5 பள்ளிகளில் வெடிகுண்டு வைக்கப்பட்டிருப்பதாகவும், சரியாக இன்று காலை 11.18 மணிக்கு அந்த குண்டுகள் வெடித்துச் சிதறும் என்றும், முடிந்தால் அந்தப் பள்ளிகளில் படிக்கும் குழந்தைகளின் உயிரை காப்பாற்றிக் கொள்ளுங்கள் எனவும் எழுதப்பட்டிருந்தது.

இதனையடுத்து, கீழக்கரை பகுதிக்குட்பட்ட அனைத்து பள்ளிகளுக்கும் இன்று விடுமுறை அறிவிக்கப்பட்டது. போலீசாருக்கு அளிக்கப்பட்ட புகாரின் அடிப்படையில் மோப்ப நாய்களுடன் விரைந்த வெடிகுண்டு நிபுணர்கள் குழு அத்தனை பள்ளிகளையும் முழுமயாக சோதனை செய்தது.

New Delhi, Nov 23 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi will
only travel to Kathmandu when he will leave on Tuesday to
attend the SAARC summit in Nepal, despite his wish to visit
other parts of the country including Janakpur, the revered
Hindu religious site.
    "During his last visit to Kathmandu, Prime Minister Modi
had expressed a desire to visit other places in Nepal,
including Janakpur, Lumbini and Muktinath, to highlight, in
particular, the strong civilisational links and unparallelel
people-to-people contacts between our two countries. There has
been widespread interest in Prime Minister's schedule in the
upcoming visit to Nepal for the SAARC summit.
    "Due to Prime Minister's unavoidable domestic commitments
and pre-scheduled travels within the country, he will travel
only to Kathmandu to attend the SAARC Summit," External
Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said.
    He was responding to a query on Modi's visit and his
itinerary in Nepal.
    He also said the Prime Minister deeply values the special
relationship between India and Nepal and will always welcome
every occasion to visit Nepal and interact with the leadership
and the people of Nepal.
    "He looks forward to an early opportunity to visit
Janakpur, Lumbini, Muktinath and other places in Nepal," he
further added.
    Modi will be leaving India on November 25 to attend the
18th SAARC Summit in Kathmandu on November 26-27.
    He was scheduled to visit Janakpur, an ancient city said
to be the birthplace of Sita, situated 250 kms south of
Kathmandu.
    He was also keen to visit Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord
Buddha, and another sacred Hindu pilgrimage site, Muktinath,
located in the southern mountainous region.
    There were conflicting reports about his visit to
Janakpur after local political groups staged rallies and
counter-rallies in Janakpur in connection with the visit.
    The Unified CPN-Maoist and some Madhesi parties even
threatened to establish a parallel organising committee for
the visit.
    The controversy started after Nepal's Deputy Prime
Minister and Home Minister Bam Dev Gautam told Parliament that
there was no programme about Modi addressing the people of

13-year-old boy to Indian authorities after he had
inadvertently crossed the Line of Control.
    Manzar Hussain, a student of class 8 and a resident of
Jhanagar village in Kashmir, had mistakenly crossed the LoC in
Asal Kass Nullah of Khui Ratta sector on November 14, the
Pakistan military said yesterday.
    He was handed over to Indian authorities at Chakoti-Uri

மத்தியில் பிரதமர் மோடி தலைமையில் கடந்த மே மாதம் பா.ஜனதா அரசு பதவி ஏற்ற பின்பு முதல் முறையாக இன்று மந்திரி சபை விரிவாக்கம் செய்யப்பட்டது.

மத்திய மந்திரி சபையில் ஏற்கனவே 45 பேர் மந்திரிகளாக உள்ளனர். இதில் 23 பேர் கேபினட் மந்திரிகள், 22 பேர் ராஜாங்க மந்திரிகள். இவர்களில் 10 பேர் தனிப் பொறுப்புடன் கூடிய ராஜாங்க மந்திரிகளாக உள்ளனர்.

இன்றைய விரிவாக்கத்தில் மேலும் 21 பேர் புதிய மந்திரிகளாக நியமிக்கப்பட்டனர். இவர்களில் 4 பேர் கேபினட் அந்தஸ்த்துடன் கூடிய மந்திரிகள், 3 பேர் தனிப் பொறுப்புடன் கூடிய இணை மந்திரிகள் மற்றும் 13 பேர் இணை மந்திரிகள் ஆவார்கள்.

மந்திரி சபை விரிவாக்கத்தில் சிவசேனாவுக்கு மேலும் மந்திரி பதவி அளிக்க மோடி முடிவு செய்தார். ஆனால் மராட்டிய மந்திரி சபையில் தங்களுக்கும் இடம் கேட்டு சிவசேனா நெருக்கடி கொடுத்தது.

இதனால் சிவசேனா மந்திரி பதவி ஏற்பாரா என்ற கேள்வி எழுந்தது. கடைசி நேரத்தில் சிவசேனா இடம் பெற சம்மதித்தது. சிவசேனாவை சேர்ந்த சுரேஷ் பிரபு, அனில் தேசாய் ஆகியோர் மந்திரி பதவி ஏற்பார்கள் என்று உத்தவ் தாக்கரே அறிவித்தார்.

21 புதிய மந்திரிகளின் பதவி ஏற்பு விழா பகல் 1.30 மணிக்கு ஜனாதிபதி மாளிகையில் தர்பார் ஹாலில் நடந்தது. புதிய மந்திரிகளுக்கு ஜனாதிபதி பிரணாப் முகர்ஜி பதவிப் பிரமாணமும் ரகசிய காப்புறுதி பிரமாணமும் செய்து வைத்தார்.

மனோகர் பாரிக்கர், சுரேஷ் பிரபு, ஜெ.பி.நத்தா, பிரேந்திர சிங் ஆகியோர் இன்று கேபினட் அந்தஸ்த்துடன் கூடிய புதிய  மந்திரிகளாக பதவி ஏற்றுக் கொண்டனர்.

கோவா முதல்–மந்திரியாக இருந்த மனோகர் பாரிக்கர். மத்திய மந்திரியாக பதவி ஏற்பதற்காக நேற்று அந்தப் பதவியை ராஜினாமா செய்தார். உ.பி. மாநிலத்தில் இருந்து டெல்லி மேல்–சபை எம்.பி.யாக இவர் விரைவில் தேர்ந்து எடுக்கப்படவுள்ளார். இதற்காக நாளை வேட்பு மனு தாக்கல் செய்கிறார்.

பண்டாரு தத்தாத்ரேயா, ராஜிவ் பிரதாப் ருடி மற்றும் மகேஷ் சர்மா ஆகியோர் தனிப் பொறுப்புடன் கூடிய இணை மந்திரிகளாக பதவியேற்றுக் கொண்டனர்.

முக்தார் அப்பாஸ் நக்வி, ராம் கிரிபால் யாதவ், ஹரிபாய் பார்த்திபாய் சவுத்ரி, சன்வர்லால் ஜாட், மோகன்பாய் கல்யான்ஜிபாய் குண்டாரியா, கிரிராஜ் சிங், ஹன்ஸ்ராஜ் ஆஹிர், ராம் சங்கர் கத்தேரியா, ஒய்.எஸ்.சவுத்ரி, ஜெயந்த சின்ஹா, ராஜ்வர்த்தன் சின் ரத்தோர், பாபுல் சுப்ரியோ, சத்வி நிரஞ்சன் ஜோதி, விஜய் சம்ப்லா ஆகியோர் இணை மந்திரிகளாக பொறுப்பேற்றுக் கொண்டனர்.

புதிய மந்திரிகளில், ஆந்திரா, மராட்டியம், பீகார், மேற்கு வங்காளம், கோவா, ராஜஸ்தான், இமாச்சலப் பிரதேசம் அரியானா ஆகிய மாநிலங் களுக்கு பிரதிநிதித்துவம் அளிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

புதிய மந்திரியாக பதவி ஏற்ற ராம் கிரிபால் யாதவ், லல்லு கட்சியில் இருந்து விலகி பாராளுமன்ற தேர்தலில் பா.ஜனதா வேட்பாளராக போட்டியிட்டு லல்லு மகள் மிசா பாரதியை தோற்கடித்தவர் என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.

மோடி மந்திரி சபையில் முஸ்லிம் மதத்தைச் சேர்ந்த நஜ்மா ஹெப்துல்லா மட்டுமே மந்திரியாக இருந்தார். தற்போது முக்தர் அப்பாஸ் நக்வியுடன் சேர்த்து முஸ்லிம்களுக்கு 2 பிரதிநிதித்துவம் அளிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

இதேபோல் மந்திரியாக நியமிக்கப்பட்ட பாபுல் சுப்ரியோ மேற்கு வங்காளத்தைச் சேர்ந்த பின்னணி பாடகர் ஆவார். பாராளுமன்ற தேர்தலில் பா.ஜனதா வேட்பாளராக அசன்சால் தொகுதியில் போட்டியிட்டு வெற்றி பெற்றார்.

மத்திய மந்திரி சபையில் இதுவரை மேற்கு வங்காளத்துக்கு பிரதிநிதித்துவம் இல்லாமல் இருந்தது தற்போது பாபுல் சுப்ரியோ இடம் பெற்றுள்ளார்.

பண்டாரு தத்தாத்ரேயா, ஒய்.எஸ்.சவுத்திரி ஆகியோர் தெலுங்கு தேசம் கட்சியை சேர்ந்தவர்கள்.

நேற்றிரவு, இந்த வழித்தடக் கம்பிகளில் ஒன்று அறுந்து விழுந்ததில் உயரழுத்த மின்சாரம் பாய்ந்து சுமார் 17 வயது மதிக்கத்தக்க பர்வேஷ், சுனீல், தேஷ்ராஜ் மற்றும் கோபி என்ற பத்து வயது சிறுவனும் சம்பவ இடத்திலேயே பலியாகினர்.

Three people were killed and two others injured after a wall collapsed due to loud music being played during Ganesh immersion in Satara late on Monday evening.

The incident took place in the Rajpath area of the city, when the procession was moving towards a pond for the immersion of the Ganesh idol after the Ganesh Chaturthi festival. The wall, adjacent to an LIC building, collapsed due to loud music being played. The three people who lost their lives and the two injured were eating vada paav at an adjacent stall when the incident occurred.

Three people lost their lives after becoming trapped under debris, while two other injured are being treated at civil hospital.

150-metre long tunnel dug up to infiltrate terrorists

    Jammu, Sep 2 (PTI) A 150-metre long tunnel which was
recently discovered near a forward post along the Indo-Pak
border in Jammu region's sensitive Pallanwala sector, was
apparently dug up for infiltrating terrorists, Defence
spokesperson said here today.
    "Having failed to infiltrate terrorists across the Line
of Control in the Jammu Division, there was an attempt to
construct a tunnel across the LoC (to facilitate
infiltration)", he said.
    The tunnel, which was discovered on August 22, was
about 150-metre long on our side of LoC, and originated from
the Pakistan side, spokesman said.
    The tunnel was about 20 feet below ground level and its
diameter was about four feet, he added.
    A senior Army officer at Udhampur-based Northern Command
headquarters felt that tunnel has been dug up with a design
probably to push in terrorists and carry out smuggling of
weapons and drugs and narcotic substances.
    However, we have not got any evidence in this regard so
far, the officer said.
    The alert Indian Army personnel deployed along the LoC
in the sector thwarted the nefarious designs of the terrorists
and prevented major terrorist incidents by discovering the
tunnel before it could be completed, the spokesman said.
        The alert area domination patrol of the Indian Army
noticed a depression in the ground and after investigating the
same with ground penetrating radar and other equipment,
discovered the tunnel, he said.
        Earlier, Defence Spokesman issued a handout on August 23
and said "On 22 Aug 2104, Army personnel deployed in
Pallanwala Sector of Jammu District during routine
patrolling found a tunnel approximately 50 meters on Indian
side of the Line of Control".

Mahendra Singh Dhoni on Tuesday became the most successful Indian captain ever in the one-dayers after India's nine-wicket thrashing of England in the fourth ODI.

Tuesday's win at the Edgbaston was Dhoni's 91st ODI victory as skipper. He surpassed Mohammad Azharuddin's tally of 90 ODI victories as captain.

33-year-old Dhoni now has a realistic chance of becoming the first Indian to lead the country in 100 ODI victories. He has scored 8098 runs from 246 ODIs so far, averaging 53.27 with a career strike rate of 89.31.

Dhoni's record as captain against England in ODIs is better than any of his predecessors, with 17 wins and five losses out of 25 matches (two tied and one no result).

The Edgbaston win was also India's eight straight ODI win in England, a successful run that started in the Champions Trophy last year.

Dhoni's captaincy may have come under the scanner after the 1-3 Test debacle against the Alastair Cook-led side, but his batting form has been consistent.

The wicketkeeper-batsman slammed four half-centuries in the Test series and also struck a fine 52 at Cardiff in the second ODI.

A man not known to chase numbers, Dhoni also registered another record as wicketkeeper in the third ODI on August 30.

எனவே சென்னையில் 6 மற்றும் 7–ந் தேதிகளில் நடைபெறும் ஊர்வலத்தின் போது பிரச்சினை ஏற்படாமல் தடுக்க வேண்டும் என்று போலீசாருக்கு அறிவுறுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளது. எனவே சென்னையில் நடக்கும் விநாயகர் சிலை ஊர்வலங்களின் போது மோதல் ஏற்படாமல் தடுக்கவும், ஊர்வலம் அமைதியாக நடத்தவும் போதுமான பாதுகாப்பு ஏற்பாடுகளை போலீசார் செய்து வருகிறார்கள்.

2 killed, two injured as oil tanker catches fire
    Ghaziabad, Aug 25 (PTI) At least two persons were killed
and as many injured when a furnace oil tanker caught fire
while they were welding it for leakage near RTO office in Kavi
Nagar area here.
    According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Ran Vijay
Singh, two charred bodies of the technicians beyond
recognition were recovered from the debris.
    Two other technicians, Nand Lal and Kshati Prasad, have
been hospitalised with severe burn injuries in Safdarjung
hospital in Delhi.
    The area has been cordoned-off as police are suspecting
more causalities, he said, adding that identities of the
deceased were not established yet.
    The rescue and search operation was on till the last
report came in.

போதைப்பொருள் விற்பனை தடுப்பு அதிகாரிகளுக்கு வந்த ரகசிய தகவலையடுத்து, மணிப்பூர் மாநிலம், சுராசந்த்பூர் நகரில் உள்ள ஒரு வீட்டை சோதனையிட்டதில் 1.5 கிலோ எடையுள்ள கொக்கெய்ன் பறிமுதல் செய்யப்பட்டதாகவும், இது தொடர்பாக இருவர் கைது செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளதாகவும், பிடிபட்ட கொக்கெய்னின் சர்வதேச மதிப்பு சுமார் 8 கோடி ரூபாய் என்றும் அதிகாரிகள் தெரிவித்துள்ளனர்.

சார்ஜ் ஏறி கொண்டு இருந்த ஐ-போனை படுக்கையில் வைத்து தூங்கிய இளம்பெண் காயம்

இங்கிலாந்து நாட்டை சேர்ந்த இளம்பெண் டியோனே பாக்ஸ்டர்(வயது 24). டியோனே மிகவும் ஐ-போன் பிரியர் ஆவார். எப்போதும் ஐ-போனை தன்னுடன் வைத்துக் கொள்வார். சம்பவத்தன்று இரவு தனது ஐ-போனை சார்ஜ் ஏற்றியுள்ளார். படுக்கையில் சார்ஜ் ஏறி கொண்டு இருந்த செல்போன் மீது தெரியாமால் படுத்து தூங்கியுள்ளார். அப்போது அவரது போன் கடும் வெப்பம் அடைந்துள்ளது. இதனால் அவரது மார்பில் பலத்த காயம் ஏற்பட்டுள்ளது. இதனால் அவருக்கு உயிர் மீது அச்சம் ஏற்பட்டுள்ளது. காயம் அடைந்த பெண் உடனடியாக மருத்துவமனைக்கு கொண்டு செல்லப்பட்டார். அங்கு அவருக்கு சிகிச்சை அளிக்கப்பட்டது.


இது தொடர்பாக பாதிக்கப்பட்ட பெண் செய்தியாளர்களிடம் பேசுகையில் "நான் தூங்கியபோது போனில் ஏற்பட்ட கடும் வெப்பம் காரணமாக எனது மார்பகத்தில் காயம் ஏற்பட்டுள்ளது. நான் என்னுடையை போனை தூக்கியபோது அது மிகவும் வெப்பமாக இருந்தது. என்னால் அதனை தொடக் கூட முடியவில்லை." என்று கூறியுள்ளார். அதிகமாக வெப்பம் ஆகும் ஐ-போனால் பாதிக்கப்படுவது இது முதல் முறையல்ல. இரண்டு வாரங்களுக்கு முன்னதாக ஐ-போனை வைத்து தூங்கிய  18 வயது ஜாக் பார்கெர் என்ற வாலிபர் கையில் காயம் ஏற்பட்டது. பிப்ரவரியில் பள்ளி மாணவியின் பாக்கெட்டில் இருந்த ஐ-போன் எரிந்ததில் அவர் காயம் அடைந்தார். 14 வயது சிறுமி வைத்திருந்த ஐ-போன் எரிந்ததில் அவரது தொடைப் பகுதியில் காயம் ஏற்பட்டது. தற்போது ஐ-போன் வெப்பத்தால் காயம் அடைந்த பெண் தனது இரண்டாவது குழந்தைக்கு தாய்பால் கொடுக்க முடியாது என்று மிகவும் அச்சத்தில் உள்ளார்.

சார்ஜ் ஏறும்போது அதில் பேச வேண்டாம், கேம் விளையாட வேண்டாம் என்று பல்வேறு விழிப்புணர்வு கொண்டுவரப்பட்டாலும், அதனை மீறுபவர்கள் உள்ளனர். யாரும் தூங்கும் போது தங்கள் அருகே செல்போன் வைக்க வேண்டாம். குழந்தைகள் கைகளில் கொடுப்பதும் தவறு. இதுபோன்ற தவறுகளால் பொதுமக்கள் பரவலாகவே பாதிக்கப்பட்டு வருகின்றனர். இதனை தவிர்க்க வேண்டும்.

இந்த நீர் மூழ்கி கப்பல் சீனாவில் ஷாங்காய் நகரத்தில் இருந்து அமெரிக்காவின் சான்பிரான்சிஸ்கோவுக்கு 2 மணி நேரத்தில் பயணம் செய்ய முடியும். சான்பிரான்சிஸ்கோ அமெரிக்காவின் மேற்கு பகுதியிலும், ஷாங்காய் சீனாவின் கிழக்கு பகுதியிலும் உள்ளது.

JK employees detained for staging protest outside CM residence

Srinagar, Aug 19 (PTI) Hundreds of Jammu and Kashmir
government employees were today detained as they tried to
march toward Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's residence to stage
a demonstration in support of their demands including
regularisation of daily-wage and casual workers.
The employees of Public Health Engineering (PHE)
department marched towards the high security Gupkar residence
of the Chief Minister, officials said.
As the protesting employees reached Sonwar, the police
asked them to disperse but they insisted on going ahead with
the demonstration, following which fifteen of them were
detained.
The protest call was given by Kashmir PHE Joint Employees
Association in support of its demand for regularisation of
daily wage workers, casual labourers and need-based workers.
They also demanded their pending salaries be released and paid
regularly.
The employees have been frequently holding protest
demonstrations in support of their demands. Over the past
several months, the employees staged various demonstrations
and sit-ins in support of their demands.
They have threatened to gherao the residences of ministers
in their respective constituencies if their demands were not
met immediately.

உலகின் அதிக வயதான நபராக கின்னஸில் இடம்பிடித்த ஜப்பான் தாத்தா

உலகிலேயே அதிக வயதான ஆணாக ஜப்பானை சேர்ந்த சக்காரி மோமோய் ’கின்னஸ்’ சாதனை புத்தகத்தில் இன்று இடம் பிடித்தார்.


புக்குஷிமா அருகிலுள்ள மினியாமிசோனாவில் 1903-ம் ஆண்டு பிறந்து, ஆசிரியராக பணியாற்றி ஓய்வு பெற்று, ஜப்பான் தலைநகர் டோக்கியோவின் வடக்கு பகுதியில் உள்ள முதியோர் காப்பகத்தில் வாழ்ந்து வரும் சக்காரி மோமோய்-க்கு தற்போது 111 வயது ஆகின்றது.

உலகிலேயே அதிக வயதான ஆணாக கின்னஸில் இடம் பிடித்திருந்த அமெரிக்காவை சேர்ந்த அலெக்ஸாண்டர் இமிச் என்பவர் கடந்த ஜுன் மாதம் மரணம் அடைந்ததையடுத்து, இந்த அங்கீகாரம் சக்காரி மோமோய்-யை வந்தடைந்துள்ளது.

மத்திய அரசின் கெயல் நிறுவனம் எரிவாயு குழாய்களை பதிக்கும் திட்டத்துக்காக சேலம், கோவை, கிருஷ்ணகிரி, தர்மபுரி, நாமக்கல், ஈரோடு, திருப்பூர் ஆகிய 7 மாவட்டங்களில் விவசாய நிலங்கள் கேட்கப்பட்டன.
இதற்கு விவசாய சங்கங்கள், நில உரிமையாளர்கள் எதிர்ப்பு தெரிவித்தனர். இதையடுத்து தமிழக அரசின் தொழிற்துறை முதன்மை செயலாளர் கெயில் நிறுவனத்துக்கு உத்தரவு ஒன்றை அனுப்பினார்.
அதில் ஏற்கனவே ஆர்ஜிதம் செய்யப்பட்ட விவசாய நிலங்களை மீண்டும் விவசாயிகளிடம் ஒப்படைக்க வேண்டும் என்றும், நெடுஞ்சாலை ஓரம் வழியாக கெயில் நிறுவனம் குழாய்களை பதித்து கொள்ளலாம் என்றும் கூறப்பட்டு இருந்தது.
இதை எதிர்த்து சென்னை ஐகோர்ட்டில் கெயில் நிறுவனம் சார்பில் வழக்கு தொடரப்பட்டது. கெயில் நிறுவனத்தின் கோரிக்கையை ஏற்று எரிவாயு குழாயை விளை நிலங்கள் வழியாக எடுத்து செல்ல ஐகோர்ட்டு அனுமதி வழங்கியது.
இதை எதிர்த்து தமிழக அரசு சார்பில் கடந்த நவம்பர் மாதம் சுப்ரீம் கோர்ட்டில் மேல்முறையீடு செய்யப்பட்டது. மனுவை விசாரித்த சுப்ரீம் கோர்ட்டு எரிவாயு குழாய் பதிக்க கெயில் நிறுவனத்துக்கு ஐகோர்ட்டு அளித்த அனுமதிக்கு இடைக்கால தடை விதித்து உத்தரவு பிறப்பித்தது.
இந்த தடையை நீக்க கோரி கெயில் நிறுவனம் சார்பில் சுப்ரீம் கோர்ட்டில் மனுதாக்கல் செய்யபட்டது. இந்த மனு இன்று விசாரணைக்கு வந்தது. விவசாய நிலங்களில் எரிவாயு குழாய் பதிக்க விதிக்கப்பட்ட இடைக்கால தடையை நீட்டித்து சுப்ரீம் கோர்ட்டு உத்தரவிட்டது. தடையை நீக்க கோரிய மனுவையும் தள்ளுபடி செய்தது.

Nepal to host SAARC summit in November

    Kathmandu, Aug 5 (PTI) The 18th SAARC summit will be held
here in November, Nepal's foreign ministry said today.
    A cabinet meeting here decided Nepal would host the summit
in November, said assistant spokesperson at the Foreign
Ministry, Bharat Raj Regmi.
    The two-day summit will be inaugurated on November 26.
Nepal will chair the summit of the regional grouping.
    The dates have been circulated by the SAARC Secretariat
based in Kathmandu to other member countries.
    Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives,
Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka are the eight members of the
South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC).
    Nepal has formed a high-level preparatory committee and
several other panels to make the summit a success, Regmi said.
    Nepal is hosting the SAARC Summit after an interval of 12
years. The country previously hosted the summit in 2002, when
then Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee and former Pakistani
military ruler Pervez Musharraf met in Kathmandu.
    The SAARC preparatory committee meeting consisting of
joint secretaries will take place on November 22 and the
foreign secretary level standing committee will meet from
November 23-24.

காஸா பகுதியில் இஸ்ரேல் நடத்தி வரும் தரைவழி மற்றும் வான்வழி தாக்குதல்களில் நூற்றுக் கணக்கான அப்பாவி பொதுமக்கள் பலியாகி வருவதை கண்டித்து கடந்த 13 மற்றும் 14 தேதிகளில் தலைநகர் புது டெல்லியில் உள்ள இஸ்ரேல் நாட்டு உயர்தூதரகத்தின் முன்னர் டெல்லி ஜவஹர்லால் நேரு பல்கலைக்கழகத்தை சேர்ந்த மாணவர்கள் ஆர்ப்பாட்டம் நடத்தினர்.

இதேபோல், கடந்த வெள்ளிக்கிழமை தெற்கு காஷ்மீரின் குல்காம் மாவட்டத்தில் இஸ்ரேல் தாக்குதலுக்கு கண்டனம் தெரிவித்து நூற்றுக்கணக்கான மக்கள் ஆர்ப்பாட்டம் நடத்தினர். இந்த ஆர்ப்பாட்டக்காரர்களை பாதுகாப்பு படையினர் தடியடி நடத்தி விரட்டியடித்தனர்.

இந்த அத்துமீறலை கண்டித்து குத்வானி- குவைமோ கிராமம் அருகே நேற்று ஆயிரக்கணக்கான மக்கள் திரண்டு இஸ்ரேலின் காட்டுமிராண்டித்தனமான தாக்குதலை எதிர்த்தும், பாதுகாப்பு படையினரின் அராஜகத்தை கண்டித்தும் முழக்கங்களை எழுப்பி போராட்டத்தில் ஈடுபட்டனர்.

நிலைமை கட்டுங்கடாமல் போவதை உணர்ந்த போலீசார், போராட்டக்காரர்களை நோக்கி துப்பாக்கிகளால் சுட்டனர். போலீசார் சுட்ட தோட்டாக்களில் சில சுஹைல் அஹமத் என்ற 15 வயது சிறுவனின் உடலில் பாய்ந்ததால் சம்பவ இடத்திலேயே அவன் சுருண்டு விழுந்தான்.

அவசர, அவசரமாக அவனை ஆஸ்பத்திரிக்கு தூக்கிச் சென்ற போது, வரும் வழியிலேயே உயிர் பிரிந்து விட்டதாக டாக்டர்கள் தெரிவித்தனர். அங்கிருந்து சுஹைல் அஹமத்தின் பிரேதத்தை ஊர்வலமாக சுமந்துச் சென்ற உள்ளூர் மக்கள் அவனது வீட்டில் ஒப்படைத்தனர்.

Kerala will not allow river linking project: Chandy

Thiruvananthapuram, Jul 17 (PTI) Kerala today
categorically stated it would not allow the proposed
inter-linking of its rivers Pampa-Achenkovil with Tamil Nadu's
Vaipar river, holding that the project would not only result
in drying up of rivers, but also cause largescale ecological
destruction.
    Replying to a submission on the matter moved by leader
of
Opposition V S Achuthanandan in the assembly, Chief Minister
Oommen Chandy said the state was well prepared with facts and
documents legally and otherwise to oppose the project.
    Disputing the contention of National Water Development
Agency (NWDA) on excess water state rivers, Chandy said a
study by IIT, Delhi had clearly shown that there was no
surplus water in Pampa and Achenkovil rivers.
    'Not only that, it also predicted that in the coming
years there will be shortage of water in these rivers', he
said.
    Chandy said another major issue was that the project
would inundate nearly 2004 hectares of deep forest in the
state.
    Vembanad lake and Kuttanad, the rice bowl of Kerala,
would face severe drought conditions if the project was taken
up, he said.
    Chandy also brought to the notice of the house the
NWDA's
decision that it would move further on the matter only after a
consensus between the two states (Kerala and Tamil Nadu) on
the issue.
    He pointed out that Kerala had not received any
communication so far from the centre on inter-linking of
rivers.
    The CM also referred to the unanimous resolution
passed
by the Assembly in 2003 against the plan to inter-link rivers.
    While taking up the matter, Achuthanandan wanted the
government to be very cautious on the matter to avoid the
'failure' the state had experienced on the Mullaperiyar issue.
    He said the BJP government was reviving the NWDA
project
to link Pampa-Achenkovil rivers with Vaipar in Tamil Nadu as
part of river linking scheme under Peninsular component, which
was kept in cold storage for a long period.

17 Missing in China Mudslide

Beijing:  At least 17 people were missing and one was injured after a mudslide in China's Yunnan province on Wednesday, local authorities said.

The rain-triggered disaster occurred at around 3 a.m. in Shawa Village in Fugong county, Xinhua quoted Li Hongwen, the county's Communist Party chief who is overseeing the rescue work, as saying.

More than 140 rescuers, along with excavators, fire trucks and ambulances, were searching the site, about 500 meters from the Nujiang River.

Some of the missing people may have been swept into the river, while others may be buried under the thick mud and rock debris, Li said.

Lanka tells India devolving powers to provinces not possible
    Colombo, Jun 4 (PTI) Sri Lanka today said it had made it
clear to Prime Minister Narendra Modi that devolving police
powers to the provinces, including the Tamil-dominated areas,
was not possible saying "it has nothing to do with ethnic
considerations".
    G L Peiris, the external affairs minister, was speaking
in parliament today apprising the house on the bilateral talks
between India and Sri Lanka held in New Delhi last week when
President Mahinda Rajapaksa attended the swearing-in of Modi.
    Peiris said the talks between Rajapaksa and Modi had
covered a wide range of issues.
    "Prime Minister Modi's vision for the future of SAARC,
expansion of economic and the issue of fishermen were the main
topics", Peiris said.
    "During our talks on constitutional matters, we explained
our position," Peiris said adding that the Indian side was
told that the thirteenth amendment to the Sri Lankan
constitution has been part of the statutes for over a quarter
of a century.
    Sri Lanka's thirteenth amendment was introduced in 1987
as a result of direct Indian intervention to try and resolve
the ethnic impasse in the island.
    "There have been five different governments in the
country during that period. None of them felt fully able to
implement it", Peiris said as having told the Indian side.
    "We made it crystal clear that devolution of police
powers is not acceptable. It has nothing to do with ethnic
considerations," Peiris said.
    He said Sri Lanka conveyed to the India that attribution
of police powers to a province "wheresoever in the country was
undesirable for matter of policy".
    Peiris' statement in parliament was in response to a
query raised by the main opposition leader Ranil
Wickremesinghe on matters discussed with the new Indian
government.

      Lucknow, Apr 25 (PTI) Triggering yet another
controversy, yoga guru Ramdev today alleged Congress
vice-president Rahul Gandhi goes to the houses of Dalits for
honeymoon and picnic.
    "He goes to Dalits house for honeymoon and picnic. Had he
married a dalit girl, then his luck could have clicked and he
would have become the Prime Minister," Ramdev said at a
programme here.
    He said unlike Rahul, Narendra Modi and Ramdev have
not become "fakir" (single) under compulsion.
    "Us bechare ki bhi kismat kharab hai (Rahul is unlucky)",
Ramdev said.

    "His (Rahul's) mother says that if you marry a foreigner
girl, then you cannot become the PM and this boy does not want
to marry an Indian girl. His mother wants that first he
becomes the PM and then marry a foreigner", he added.
     Later, in a damage-control exercise, Ramdev claimed he
did not make the remarks in a negative sense and was willing
to withdraw them if they have hurt the Dalit sentiments.
    Earlier refuting Congress's allegations that he was
campaigning for BJP in his yoga camps, Ramdev claimed his
camps were "apolitical".
      "My yoga camps are apolitical... We do not appeal for
votes in these camps... Airing views through the media is my
constitutional right," Ramdev told reporters here.
      Ramdev said he would go to Amethi on April 30 and
claimed Rahul Gandhi would not be able to win Lok Sabha
elections from there this time.
      "Rahul will not win elections. It's 100 per cent
certain... This time, BJP's Smriti Irani will win from Amethi.
Kumar Vishwas (of AAP) has sowed the seeds against Rahul there
(in Amethi) and Irani will get its benefit," he claimed.
      On Priyanka Gandhi, Ramdev said that when it came to
her husband's matter she said her family was being humiliated

"The central election committee of Congress has declared
40 star campaigners for Gujarat, including several national
and local leaders. In the comming days, we will be informed
about who is comming on which date, but we learned that
campaigning will commence from April 16 in Gujarat," Gujarat
Congress spokesperson Manish Doshi said.
Other star campaigners include former cricketers Mohammad
Azharuddin and Mohammad Kaif, besides actresses like Nagma and
Mahima Chaudhari, and actor Sunil Shetty.
Several senior as well as young Congress leaders have also
been included as star campaigners for Gujarat, such as Mukul
Vasnik, Ashok Gehlot, Raj Babbar, Girja Vyas, Oscar Fernandes,
Sachin Pilot and Jyotiraditya Scindia.
Congress has also included local leaders for campaigning
in Gujarat, including Shankarsinh Vaghela, Arjun Modhwadia,
Jagdish Thakor, Paresh Dhanani, besides several others.
