Ganesh immersion: 3 killed after loud music causes wall collapse in Satara

Three people were killed and two others injured after a wall collapsed due to loud music being played during Ganesh immersion in Satara late on Monday evening.

The incident took place in the Rajpath area of the city, when the procession was moving towards a pond for the immersion of the Ganesh idol after the Ganesh Chaturthi festival. The wall, adjacent to an LIC building, collapsed due to loud music being played. The three people who lost their lives and the two injured were eating vada paav at an adjacent stall when the incident occurred.

Three people lost their lives after becoming trapped under debris, while two other injured are being treated at civil hospital.

150-metre long tunnel dug up to infiltrate terrorists

    Jammu, Sep 2 (PTI) A 150-metre long tunnel which was
recently discovered near a forward post along the Indo-Pak
border in Jammu region's sensitive Pallanwala sector, was
apparently dug up for infiltrating terrorists, Defence
spokesperson said here today.
    "Having failed to infiltrate terrorists across the Line
of Control in the Jammu Division, there was an attempt to
construct a tunnel across the LoC (to facilitate
infiltration)", he said.
    The tunnel, which was discovered on August 22, was
about 150-metre long on our side of LoC, and originated from
the Pakistan side, spokesman said.
    The tunnel was about 20 feet below ground level and its
diameter was about four feet, he added.
    A senior Army officer at Udhampur-based Northern Command
headquarters felt that tunnel has been dug up with a design
probably to push in terrorists and carry out smuggling of
weapons and drugs and narcotic substances.
    However, we have not got any evidence in this regard so
far, the officer said.
    The alert Indian Army personnel deployed along the LoC
in the sector thwarted the nefarious designs of the terrorists
and prevented major terrorist incidents by discovering the
tunnel before it could be completed, the spokesman said.
        The alert area domination patrol of the Indian Army
noticed a depression in the ground and after investigating the
same with ground penetrating radar and other equipment,
discovered the tunnel, he said.
        Earlier, Defence Spokesman issued a handout on August 23
and said "On 22 Aug 2104, Army personnel deployed in
Pallanwala Sector of Jammu District during routine
patrolling found a tunnel approximately 50 meters on Indian
side of the Line of Control".

Mahendra Singh Dhoni on Tuesday became the most successful Indian captain ever in the one-dayers after India's nine-wicket thrashing of England in the fourth ODI.

Tuesday's win at the Edgbaston was Dhoni's 91st ODI victory as skipper. He surpassed Mohammad Azharuddin's tally of 90 ODI victories as captain.

Azharuddin took nine years between 1990 and 1999 and 174 matches to get to his mark while Dhoni did it in only seven years and 162 matches.

33-year-old Dhoni now has a realistic chance of becoming the first Indian to lead the country in 100 ODI victories. He has scored 8098 runs from 246 ODIs so far, averaging 53.27 with a career strike rate of 89.31.

Dhoni's record as captain against England in ODIs is better than any of his predecessors, with 17 wins and five losses out of 25 matches (two tied and one no result).

The Edgbaston win was also India's eight straight ODI win in England, a successful run that started in the Champions Trophy last year.

Dhoni's captaincy may have come under the scanner after the 1-3 Test debacle against the Alastair Cook-led side, but his batting form has been consistent.

The wicketkeeper-batsman slammed four half-centuries in the Test series and also struck a fine 52 at Cardiff in the second ODI.

A man not known to chase numbers, Dhoni also registered another record as wicketkeeper in the third ODI on August 30.

He now has the most international stumpings (131) and is now ahead of Kumar Sangakkara of Sri Lanka, who has 129 stumpings to his name.

While Dhoni achieved his milestone in 381 matches, Sangakkara took 563 matches to get to his mark.

விநாயகர் சதுர்த்தியை யொட்டி சென்னையில் விநாயகர் சிலைகள் வைக்கப்பட்டன. போலீஸ் அனுமதியுடன் சென்னையில் 1800–க்கும் மேற்பட்ட இடங்களில் விநாயகர் சிலைகள் வைத்து பூஜைகள் நடத்தப்பட்டு வருகின்றன.
இந்து அமைப்புகளின் சார்பில் வைக்கப்பட்டுள்ள விநாயகர் சிலைகள் 6–ந் தேதியும், இந்து முன்னணி சார்பில் வைக்கப்பட்டுள்ள விநாயகர் சிலைகள் ராமகோபாலன் தலைமையில் 7–ந் தேதியும் ஊர்வலமாக எடுத்துச் செல்லப்பட்டு கடலில் கரைக்கப்படுகின்றன.
இதற்கிடையே சில இடங்களில் பொதுமக்கள் மற்றும் சில அமைப்புகள் சார்பில் வைக்கப்பட்டிருந்த விநாயகர் சிலைகள் நேற்று கடலில் கரைக்கப்பட்டன. சென்னையில் பட்டினப்பாக்கம், நீலாங்கரை, காசி மேடு, எண்ணூர் ஆகிய பகுதிகளில் விநாயகர் சிலைகள் கரைக்கப்பட்டன.
சென்னையில் நேற்று இந்து முன்னணி சார்பில் 21 சிலைகளும், சிவசேனா சார்பில் 27 சிலைகளும் மற்றும் மற்ற அமைப்புகள் சார்பில் வைக்கப்பட்ட சிலைகள் உள்பட மொத்தம் 420 சிலைகள் கரைக்கப்பட்டது.
ஸ்ரீவில்லிபுத்தூர், ஸ்ரீபெரும்புதூர், விழுப்புரம், மதுரை, நெல்லை ஆகிய 5 இடங்களில் நேற்று போலீஸ் அனுமதியின்றி விநாயகர் சிலைகளை ஊர்வலமாக கொண்டு சென்றதால் மோதல் ஏற்பட்டது.
எனவே சென்னையில் 6 மற்றும் 7–ந் தேதிகளில் நடைபெறும் ஊர்வலத்தின் போது பிரச்சினை ஏற்படாமல் தடுக்க வேண்டும் என்று போலீசாருக்கு அறிவுறுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளது. எனவே சென்னையில் நடக்கும் விநாயகர் சிலை ஊர்வலங்களின் போது மோதல் ஏற்படாமல் தடுக்கவும், ஊர்வலம் அமைதியாக நடத்தவும் போதுமான பாதுகாப்பு ஏற்பாடுகளை போலீசார் செய்து வருகிறார்கள்.
